This is one of the most frequent questions we get. Most dog owners have real life matters that they must often attend to, such as work, school, shopping, and more. This means that you can’t be with your dog 24/7. It’s highly recommended to crate train your dog, as this will become a source of comfort for them(they recognize it as their den).
Sometimes people have to be gone for 8+ hours, and don’t want to leave their dog locked up inside their kennel for so long. This is where the question of leaving your dog outside comes into play.
The first thing to take into consideration is your dogs age. If they are still a puppy, you need to be absolutely sure that there are no hazards in the yard, and that they are in a fenced in area.
The next consideration is the type of community you live in. Some people will drive around looking for dogs to steal and sell, if you own an expensive dog that is still young, make sure you take this into consideration.
The next thing to take into consideration is temperature. Is it going to rain all day, be too cold, too hot? You don’t want to leave your dog outside in harsh weather conditions unless they have an outdoor kennel.
Lastly, don’t forget about their food and water. Make sure your dog has enough food and water to get through the day, + a couple of hours in case you get home late.
